Organ and tissue donations save thousands of lives each year, but still nearly 10,000 New Yorkers are on the national waiting list, about 10% of the total national waiting list, according to the New York State Donate Life Registry. Unfortunately, nearly 500 New Yorkers die each year while waiting for organs.
As of October 2017, there were over 4.7 million people registered as organ donors - about 32% of the eligible population - across the state of New York.

How do Nassau and Suffolk Counties line up to the statewide numbers? In Nassau, over 280,000, or 27% of those eligible, are registered as organ donors. Meanwhile in Suffolk County there are over 389,000 registered organ donors, making up 34% of the eligible population.
Which counties has the highest percentage of organ donors?
Only 3 counties in New York State have over 50% of the eligible population registered as organ donors. 50.5% of eligible Ontario County residents, 52.5% of Saratoga County residents and 57.6% of Tompkins County residents are registered as organ and tissue donors.
